I have enough visualisation projects to finish for customers to keep my mind of what's missing in CC for the next few weeks anyway, but I still take a break from the routine stuff to learn just how to integrate 3D Coat into my workflow. As mentioned above, doing this in 3D Coat is easy and fun with WYSIWYG added. Until then, I'm happy creating the stuff that I need using the tried and trusted Clone Cloth bases. I have modified/created several unclothed base characters, and these are patiently waiting for new faces and clothes. The lack of clothing bases, and Face creation, make it almost useless for any serious work. CC is at the moment doing nothing much more than taking up space on my Hard Disk. In short, my experience with 3D Coat combined with iClone is very positive, and I wish that I had purchased it a lot sooner. Using the base Clone Cloth Diffuse Maps on the mesh tales away the guess work when texturing over seams and curved parts. Normal Maps are a breeze to produce/modify directly on the mesh. Using layers I can generate all the maps for use in iClone that I want - and see just how the finished product looks on the mesh before saving. I find it a lot better painting on a mesh as opposed to a flat Diffuse Map in GIMP. In the short time that I have been using 3D Coat, I purchased it shortly before the sale ended a few weeks ago, I'm getting to like it more and more for texturing clothing in iClone. I'm still finding my way around 3D Coat at the moment, so it's too soon to even think about a Tut.

For my first genogram, I included five generations I was a member of the first generation at the time, because I did not yet have a child. Your basic genogram will include at least three generations "above" your generation, but ideally, you'd include as many generations as possible. This will make it easier to add generations as you continue. In the example below (Figure 1), Amy is the therapist creating the genogram she is the "explorer." She is married to Bob, and they have a daughter, "M." Marriage is noted by the solid line that connects Amy to Bob, and runs above "M." If Amy and Bob were not married, this line would be dashed (as shown in Figure 2).īegin drawing your genogram low and centered on the paper. When you draw your symbol, include a double line (circle or square) to signify that you are the one taking on the family of origin exploration. If you create a genogram with a client, then the client is the "explorer." It includes: your parents, if you live at home your partner, if you live with him/her your children, if you are a parent. Your current family system is you, in your current relationship or living situation. 1 | Draw a basic genogram, beginning with your current family system I created the genogram that I use for illustration in this post using Microsoft Word, by inserting shapes. You can create also create a genogram electronically using GenoPro or Microsoft Word. If you're comfortable hand-drawing your genogram, then you'll only need the first three items. Suppliesīefore you begin, gather the following supplies: But, right now, you will focus on four foundational steps. During future steps, you will expand on the details of your genogram and include dates, relationship dynamics, and patterns. Creating Your Genogramĭuring this step, you will be creating the basic outline of your three to four generation genogram and noting all family members, relationships, and deaths. The genogram was developed by Murray Bowen, but has since been adopted by many family therapy approaches, as well as disciplines outside of family therapy. Its purpose is to help the member of the system (in this case, you) see their context in visual form, so that pivotal moments and notable patterns can be acknowledged and recorded (Kerr & Bowen, 1988). What is a genogram?Ī genogram is a visual representation of a family system, incorporating at least three generations of the system. I explain how to create a basic genogram that you can expand as you continue your exploration. In today’s post, I offer the next step in developing understanding: Creating your genogram. Bowen (1985) believed that if clients could understand themselves as members of their FOOs and as created by their histories, they could begin and continue significant change. Understanding is the foundation of Bowen Family Systems Theory (BFST). Hopefully, your curiosity has led to significant understanding. In article three of the Family of Origin for the Therapist series, you learned 3 simple steps for how to begin family of origin (FOO) exploration: 1) read Bowen’s chapter, 2) observe your FOO experience, and 3) reflect on what you learned. It’s a modal verb, like “must,” “can,” or “may”-these verbs tell how necessary it is to do something (compare “I have to study” versus “I may study”). For example, in the sentence “John has to study all afternoon,” “has” is not part of a past-tense verb. Not every sentence that contains a form of “have” or “be” is passive! Forms of the word “have” can do several different things in English. When her house was invaded, Penelope had to think of ways to delay her remarriage. The metropolis has been scorched by the dragon’s fiery breath. Here’s a sure-fire formula for identifying the passive voice:įorm of “to be” + past participle = passive voice (The past participle is a form of the verb that typically, but not always, ends in “-ed.” Some exceptions to the “-ed” rule are words like “paid” (not “payed”) and “driven.” (not “drived”). Look for a form of “to be” (is, are, am, was, were, has been, have been, had been, will be, will have been, being) followed by a past participle. Once you know what to look for, passive constructions are easy to spot. We use active verbs to represent that “doing,” whether it be crossing roads, proposing ideas, making arguments, or invading houses (more on that shortly). The more familiar phrasing (why did the chicken cross the road?) puts the actor in the subject position, the position of doing something-the chicken (the actor/doer) crosses the road (the object). Instead, the road is the grammatical subject. Who is doing the action in this sentence? The chicken is the one doing the action in this sentence, but the chicken is not in the spot where you would expect the grammatical subject to be. Take a look at this passive rephrasing of a familiar joke: That is, whoever or whatever is performing the action is not the grammatical subject of the sentence. Defining the passive voiceĪ passive construction occurs when you make the object of an action into the subject of a sentence. It discusses how to recognize the passive voice, when you should avoid it, and when it’s OK. Typically, grammar checkers catch only a fraction of passive voice usage.ĭo any of these misunderstandings sound familiar? If so, you’re not alone. Since the passive voice isn’t a grammar error, it’s not always caught. Myth: I can rely on my grammar checker to catch the passive voice. While the passive voice can weaken the clarity of your writing, there are times when the passive voice is OK and even preferable. Myth: You should never use the passive voice. Here’s an example: “I was hit by the dodgeball.” 4. On the contrary, you can very easily use the passive voice in the first person. Myth: The passive voice always avoids the first person if something is in first person (“I” or “we”) it’s also in the active voice. Using “to be” can weaken the impact of your writing, but it is occasionally necessary and does not by itself constitute the passive voice. The passive voice entails more than just using a being verb. Myth: Any use of “to be” (in any form) constitutes the passive voice. It’s a stylistic issue that pertains to clarity-that is, there are times when using the passive voice can prevent a reader from understanding what you mean. Use of the passive voice is not a grammatical error. Myth: Use of the passive voice constitutes a grammatical error. Below, we’ll list some common myths about the passive voice: 1. So what is the passive voice? First, let’s be clear on what the passive voice isn’t. We hope this handout will help you to understand the passive voice and allow you to make more informed choices as you write. This handout will help you understand what the passive voice is, why many professors and writing instructors frown upon it, and how you can revise your paper to achieve greater clarity. The 1906 edition of Algebra for Beginners by H. Moore, a distinguished mathematician at the University of Chicago, advocated usage of paper with "squared lines" by students of high schools and universities. Buxton of England, who patented paper, printed with a rectangular coordinate grid, in 1794. The first commercially published "coordinate paper" is usually attributed to a Dr. The owner has used these grids to create block pictures in black and white and in colour. The Metropolitan Museum of Art owns a pattern book dated to around 1596 in which each page bears a grid printed with a woodblock. Graph paper is available either as loose leaf paper or bound in notebooks. It is commonly found in mathematics and engineering education settings and in laboratory notebooks. The lines are often used as guides for plotting graphs of functions or experimental data and drawing curves. Graph paper, coordinate paper, grid paper, or squared paper is writing paper that is printed with fine lines making up a regular grid. If you found this site useful can do me a favor and help others by sharing it? Thanks you.Writing paper with a grid Three styles of loose leaf graph paper: 10 squares per centimeter ("millimeter paper"), 5 squares per inch (“engineering paper"), 4 squares per inch (“quad paper") You can use it to play the dot game with dots, this works when the grid lines are very light, that allows you to use a pen or pencil to darken them, also it helps if the grids are large. You can use it to create crossword puzzles. You can fill in blocks in black or color to create graph art. Also a block can help children separate words which is helpful since children often have problems with spacing. Letters that dip under the line like the lowercase "p", "g", and "y" can take up the bottom two rows. Lowercase letters should take up only the second row. Capital letters can take up the top two rows. For example you can use a three block row. It can also be used as a writing aid, specially for children learning to write. Graph papers keep those number neat and aligned. Having multiple numbers in a small space can make it confusing to determine which numbers should be added, subtracted, multiplied, etc. You can also use it to do multi digit math. Instead of placing the ruler on the object you can place the object on the paper. You can use graph paper as a two dimensional ruler. For example to plot and study lines, functions, and data. This makes graph paper ideal for taking notes on math related subjects. Graph paper is available in many different measurements, for example each box can be centimeter or an inch in length.įor example anything using the cartesian system can make use of graph paper since the cartesian system is essentially a grid. Graph paper is useful when you want to draw things to some kind of scale, instead of measuring each line with a ruler as you draw it you let the graph paper serve as a guide. It is made of up fine lines arranged vertically and horizontally as to create many small boxes. Graph paper is paper meant to be written and drawn on.
